Gregg: John P. Bell (same man as the captain?) wrote a history of Bellville, which his family founded. That or a bio article on him (he was a judge postwar, and grandmaster of TX Masons) might give more on the unit. I could not find a John P. or J. P. Bell as an officer in any TX unit in Broadfoot's index.
