Re: Co. I, 32nd TX Cav, Crump's Batt Mtd Vol

Linda,

Due to the similarity in the writing of the letters "I" and "J" in the flamboyant cursive style of the Civil War times and to reduce confusion , some Civil War regiments had the practice of skipping the letters "I" and "J" and just go straight to using "K" and "L" . I know that I ran into this practice with some Alabama regiments . I have not looked at the 32nd Tx Cav. or Crump's Batt. so I could be "all wet" on this subject. However, if you encounter "disappearing I&J companies " , you might be seeing this practice .
Best Regards, Craig
