Dick Dowling Day Event

The annual Battle of Sabine Pass event this year per the Beaumont newspaper (Hope some of you folks can join us):

Dick Dowling Day 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 6 at Spindletop/Gladys City Boomtown Museum, off U.S. 69 (Cardinal Drive) at University Drive, on the Lamar University-Beaumont campus. The event includes interactive living history demonstrations and battle reenactments commemorating the 145th anniversary of the Civil war Battle of Sabine Pass. Museum grounds will be transformed into Sabine City, circa 1863, including the Confederate artillery garrison of Fort Griffin. There will be posting of the colors in period dress with a 13-flag display of the Confederate States of America at 10 a.m., “The Battle at Sabine Pass,” a lecture by Ed Cotham, at 11 a.m., “Jefferson Davis, American Patriot, American President,” a lecture by Mark Vogl at 2 p.m., the main battle, featuring a brass cannon, black-powder rifles, scores of Confederate and Union soldiers simulating battle sequences, at 3:30 p.m. and ongoing dancing of the era.
