The following two are found in the rosters of the Ross' Texas Cavalry Brigade. I provided both because spelling variations are very common in unit rosters. The 27th was recruited first in the Waco area as a battalion of 4 companies. Six mor companies were added later from separate companies in the Trans-Mississippi Department. These companies came basically from east Texas. It was also known as Whitfield's Legion and the 1st Texas Legion though it was not a true Legion as it did not have true Infantry nor Artillery. The 9th came from the north-central Texas area and was mustered in Grayson County in October of 1861. If either of these are your kin you can also learn more from the web site below.
