G.H. Ash-Ft Hebert, Camp Daniel & Tx St Tr

My husband's great grandfather served in the Civil War in Texas. All of his records show his name as either G.H. Ash or J.H. Ash. His name was actually General (given name not title) James Hamilton ASH. In the 1860 census Jas H Ash was enumerated in Coryell Co. He enlisted April 1, 1862 in Capt Herrings Co. B of Speights Regiment at Fort Hebert. On Aug 4, 1862 he was given a medical discharge at Camp Daniel near Tyler. It appears that he must have reinlisted because I then find him on a Muster Roll dated Feb 1864 of Lt. G.F. Adams Squad, Coryell Co. Second Frontier Dist Texas State Troops. I know that Fort Hebert was renamed Virginia Point. I can't find any information on Camp Daniel but do find a number of soldiers discharged for medical reasons on the same day as G.H. Ash. I would also like to find more information on the Second Frontier District of Texas State Troops.

G.H. Ash has been an elusive ancestor. By 1870 he was in Dent Co, MO where he was married. He next filed for a homestead in Young Co., TX and later was in Collin Co., TX where he died in the early 1890's. His widow and children then homesteaded land in OK.
I will appreciate any information that might help me in my search.
