Re: Hiram Green Boyd 14th Texas Field Battery

I could not locate a narrative history of this unit except the short note below.

George Martin

Private Hiram Boyd, enlisted in Captain E. Abat's Company, Light Artillery, age 18, October 2, 1862, at Belton, residence Bell County, born in Arkansas, this company subsequently designated Captain Dashell's Company Texas Light Artillery, served for a time in 1863 as Company C in a field organization which was known as Fontaine's Battalion Light Artillery. It was designated the 14th Texas Field Battery and assigned to the 6th Battalion Field Artillery. A Hiram Boyt is also listed in the 14th Texas Infantry, however, I cannot locate his records in the Compiled Service Records with this unit.

The 14th Battery TX Field Artillery was organized as a horse artillery battery in Sept 1862, and designated the 14th Field Arty. Battery on 19 Nov 1864. It was armed with four 6lb. Smoothbores in May 1865, and was surrendered by Gen. E. K. Smith on 26 May 1865. Its commanders were Capts. E. Abat and George R. Dashiell, and it served in the Trans-Miss.
