Frank D. Baskett, 16th TX Cav Regt, Co I

Jay,
.
I have your Frank D. Basket listed on four pages of my 1,046-page book, but could not find him on the Texas censuses.
.
I know he was in one of my militias, and I think he was in Bourland's Border Regiment. ..The info in Mike's posting presents an argument that he may have been sent to Bourland's Regiment. ..Many were sent to serve on the North and West Frontier if there was a slight question about their service. (see example below)
.
If you will send your e-mail address, I will send you a facsimile of an Oct 15, 1864 document naming a "Pvt. Basket."

Example:
.
During his company's leave of absence from the "Eastern front" to Rusk Co TX, G.W. Watson missed his ride back to the Eastern front, so he was sent to the North and West Frontier to serve in Bourland's Regt.
.
See my web page: http://www.bourlandcivilwar.com/AdditionalSoldiers.htm the included the following entry.
.
Watson, George Washington Watson (1845 Marion County TN-1920 Kiowa Co OK, Mountain Park Cem); m-1869 Peatown, Rusk Co TX to Tempie Ann English, 10 ch; found in censuses: 1860 and 1870 Rusk Co TX, P.O. Cotton Plant; 1880 and 1900 Montague Co TX; and 1910 Kiowa Co OK. He served in probably Hubbard's 22d Infantry, Co's B or I. Family tradition states: "While his company was on leave from the eastern front, George returned too late to join his company on their departure back east (missed his ride), so he was sent to the North and West Frontier to serve in Bourland's Regt. ..[After the Dec 1, 1864 muster]. ... Family tradition states: ..Their [men of Bourland's Regt] duties were to guard the frontier against the Indians. ..They did much scouting. George was with a detachment of Bourland’s men on one occasion, snowbound in the Wichita Mountains, and their horses had nothing to eat for several days except cottonwood tree bark [ca. Feb 7, 1865]." ..sent by Coy Wilbur Watson of Lawton OK. (see vIp300.)
