Company D, Willke's Battalion, Texas Light Artillery was raised in Travis County, Texas. It was an independent battery before being assigned to Willke's Battalion. After the battalion was disbanded, this company was designated as the 6th Texas Field Battery and served as part of the 7th Battalion of Field Artillery in the Army of the Trans-Mississippi. This battery was stationed near the Texas coast for most of its existence.
