Thank you, sir...

I know that 3 white officers from the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteers were held at Camp Ford; Andrew J. Armstrong, Bethuel Hitchcock and David M. Sutherland.

Andrew J. Armstrong: (sometimes referred to as Jack Armstrong) was captured at Poison Springs, Arkansas. He is noted in the memoire of Captain SA Swiggett "The Bright Side of Prison Life". Per an article that appeared in the April 8, 1865 edition of the Leavenworth Daily Times newspaper, Armstrong "...has recently returned from his ten months' captivity in Texas..." and that he was exchanged at Galveston. The same article states that Hitchcock and Sutherland were still POWs.

Bethuel Hitchcok: (sometimes referred to as Bethel Hitchock or Bethel Hitch) was a veteran of the Mexican-American War and was also captured at Poison Springs. Bethuel is one of the signers of a letter dated Feb 11, 1865 from the "Camp of National Prisoners, Near Tyler, Tex." addresed to Major General E.R.S. Canby that appears in the OR, Series 2, Vol 8, Part 1.

David M. Sutherland: Captured at Flat Rock, CN on Sept 16, 1864. Per article referenced above, (newspaper) was still a POW as of April 8, 1865, although I do have a reference for his being exchanged at Red River Landing on March 27, 1865.

My interest is in learning more about what their experiences as POWs at Camp Ford were -
