Re: Newman surname in Titus County

Also keep in mind that Titus County men may have travelled up to 100 miles to enlist. I find my Titus County ancestors in the 3rd TX Cavalry (enlisted in Clarksville), 17th TX Cavalry (enlisted in Gilmer), 18th TX Infantry (enlisted in Mt. Pleasant), 19th TX Infantry (enlisted in Mt. Pleasant), Morgan's TX Cavalry Battalion (enlisted in Jefferson), 2nd TX Infantry (recruited from a conscript camp in Tyler), 9th TX Cavalry (enlisted at Daingerfield), 9th TX Infantry (enlisted at New Boston) etc.

My point is that although a man might be from Titus County, his affiliation with a unit formed outside Titus County is quite possible.

Furthermore, many of the regiments listed above had partial companies from Titus County, although the companies may officially be listed as having formed elsewhere.

Don't leave any stone unturned!!!
