Chris;

I found my notes on the 1st Arkansas. If you are going to look for Huntsville prisoner material in the State Archives, would you want a list of the names of these people as well? That regiment was at Brownsville in September of 1865, and a number of the prisoners show as returning to duty at Brownsville, Tx between July and September 1865. Your research is untested waters. If you come up with something, it will be significant.

Wherever they were held initially must not have been too secure, as a number of them show as escaping and returning to duty in August 1863. The reason that I mention this is that Lt. John East of that regiment was captured as well [6/29/63] and held at Camp Ford until the final exchange in May 1865.

However, Lt. Albert Allen and Charles Page, both captured at Brashear City in June '63 were in the first exchange of prisoners in July 1864. Doesn't make any rhyme or reason.

Helps to review your spelling. In the last post "Dear prisoners" was supposed to be "dead prisoners"

Randy
