My GREAT GREAT GREAT Grandfather fought at Yello Bayou and may have been captured and sent to New Orleans as a prisoner. On ancestry.com there is a note that states that he died in 1864 in a prisoner of war camp. I have determined that he was probably sent to the Picayune Cotton Press site. He fought with Co.K of the 15th Texas Infantry. His name was John Steven Flowers. I havent been able to confirm his death at this prison facility. I am aware that the prisoners captured at Yellow Bayou were only held about 2.5 month and then exchanged. I read part of a book online which stated that there were many deaths due to disease at the Picayune Cotton Press. Anyone have information about this makeshift prison.
