George Martin,
.
Thank you for your help and encouragement.

Yes, McCulloch meant this Major Michael H. Campbell in his Jun 1864 letter. I had forgotten about reading Johnson's THE CHICKASAW RANCHER and preparing a web page. (I was concentrating on finding Frazier's militia along the north side of Red River.) It describes the scenerio when "Major Michael Campbell" drowned but does not provide an exact date: implication is that he drowned after Oct 1863 and before the end of the War.

By the way, Benjamin F. Savage and Samuel Bolling Savage, of Whitesboro, Grayson Co TX, "had a contract with the Confederate War Dept. to furnish beef to Fort Arbuckle in the Chickasha Nation I.T.; they were paid in Confederate money." per feature "Benjamin Savage," SOUVENIR OF TEXAS. ...Mary Savage, m-1867 Grayson Co TX to Charles Granville Graham (served 46 months in Stevens's 22d Cav-1st Indian TX Regt, CSA). Mary was dau of S.B. Savage. From your editor's Graham family history.

Now, to learn more about James N. Collins and Doctors Burk and Hamilton.
