Patti...in a wild, million-to-one chance...is it possible that the "Dr. Hamilton" may have been Dr. Amasa Hamilton DuBose of Hunt County??? He was my G-Uncle (younger brother of Jesse Knighten DuBose, 1st Sgt, Co K Bourlands Regt and my G-Grand father) and was a physician prior to...and after the war. I've not been able to find any service records for him or any information as to whether he might have served in uniform or as a contract surgeon. There's some indication he often went by his middle name, "Hamilton" rather than Amasa. Some records for Hunt Co. indicate that Jesse often was recorded as "Knighten or Knighton DuBose" rather than "Jesse."
