Ross Texas Brigade Regiments

Stephen S. Kirk is a writer who has now done books on the 6th and 9th Texas Cavalry Regiments. He will soon start on the 3rd and God willin may do the 27th. His books deal with the notes, Memories, records, etc, that he and his wife can find. He then writes a short history using these stories, and then does as much as he can find on each of the men of a regiment putting as much as he can on each man beside his name on the roster. From what I have seen they are fairly accurate and have put a lot of work in finding data on each soldier. I first bought his book on the 6th Texas and have gone about half way through the history, and find many things that I had not known before. I have already written to ask if I can use his material on my web site. Today I sent a check of $28.90 for his second book on the 9th. That includes shipping. The writing is light and easy to read, and is very informative concerning the time, history and many little known facts that apply to most of the western regiments and to some degree those in the east. Sul Ross' Sixth Texas Cavalry, Six-Shooters and Bowie Knives is very good. Write Stephen at 4414 W. 111th Terrace, Leawood, Kansas 66211. I think he has both for $40 plus shipping. He is on the web at cwba.blogspot.com/2009/02/kirk-sul-ross-sixth-texas-cavalry-six.html. Both books wer $23.95 each but the package is cheeper. Contact Stephen at ckirk1@kc.rr.com.
