Lee-Grant Exhibit

I visited the Lee-Grant Exhibit at the Musuem of Southern History at Houston Baptist College in Houston, Texas and it was outstanding. It is an extensive exhibit of uniforms, art work and artifacts belonging to or about Robert E. Lee and Ulysses Grant. They had the uniform coats both men were wearing at Appomattox, supposedly the first time those uniforms have been together in the same room since 1865. They also had three swords belonging to Lee, and the magnificent Frederick Volck sculpture of Lee on Traveler. Volck used a life mask, also in the exhibit, he made of Lee in 1864 and took measurements of Traveler. He also observed Lee riding Traveler to get the pose just right. It is the best equestrian statue of Lee and Traveler I've seen anywhere. The people who had seen Lee riding Traveler said it really captured the actual look of the man and horse in action. It was an outstanding exhibit and I highly recommend it. It will be there until 20 September.
