Merkel,
Col R.T.P. Allen's 17th Tex Inf. was at Camp Terry near Austin,Tx. between March 30 and June 30, 1862. Capt Hillary Ryan's Co. D, is shown as being in the field for this time frame so it could have been doing frontier duty, near Lampasas. That was about the western edge of settled Texas or Indian country then.
