Ras Stirman's Sharpshooter Regiment

Two Texas companies fought in Stirman's Regiment. Cozzin's book describes them on the left of Phifer's Brigade on Oct4, 1862. This unit was designed to fight as skirmishers all across Phifer's front. I had two Kin in Company I, Bridges Company of the 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment. Most likely one of the Morrison boys was in command that day (one died). Does any one have knowledge as to how Stirman's unit was deployed. The other Texas Company was Company H of the 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment. If Stirman's Regiment was deployed as Infantry that day they led the charge toward Rosecran's headquarters. The companies were at about 50% with many ill. They ran out of ammunition as they got to the hotel area, and began to seek cover. Had they been supported and resupplied they may have been able to carry the day. They did provide covering fire at Hatchie Bridge the next day and may well have allowed Ross' to establish rear coverage for Van Dorn's Army. My GGF broke his arm some how, cannon shot or jumping down the bank and was captured at Hatchie Bridge (Davis Farm Bridge). As near as I can tell he returned to the 6th in about 2 weeks and probably made the Holly Springs Raid.
