He signed a contract with Captain Boggess, Company H, as a Contract Surgeon on April 18, 1861 at San Antonio, Texas, resident of Rusk County, Texas, to be paid at the rate of $100 a month, no further records. I do not find him in the roster of Morgan's Cavalry, Company B, Capt. M. M. Boggess. It would appear he did not provide further service to the Confederate Army.

Dickson H. L. Hogg, age 27, enrolled as a Contract Surgeon, Captain Militon M. Boggess's Company, 1st Regiment Texas Volunteers** April 20, 1861 at Henderson

**This Company subsequently became Company H, 1st Texas Cavalry (McCulloch's) Regiment Texas Cavalry.

[written on the unit information for Company H reads: Most of this company were subsequently mustered in for 3 years or war in Capt. Boggess' Company - which served as Company B, McKies' Squadron Texas Cavalry, originally Co. B, Morgan's Cavalry Battalion] [This company was mustered in April 20, 1862 for 12 months, paroled July 13, 1865 at Henderson]

The 1st (McCulloch's) Regiment Cavalry (also known as 1st Regiment Texas Mounted Riflemen) was organized about June 1861, for twelve months. Six of the companies were mustered out at expiration of term of service. Most of the members of Company H re-enlisted in a company which finally became Company H (incorrect, it was Company B), Morgan's Regiment Texas Cavalry. The other four companies re-organized May 28, 1862, and formed a part of the 8th (Taylor's) Battalion Texas Cavalry.

1st (McCulloch's) Regiment Mounted Rifles was organized with about 1,000 men in May, 1861, and served in the Department of Texas on the frontier. In April, 1862, the unit was reduced to five companies and redesigned the 8th Texas Cavalry Battalion. Its commanders were Colonel Henry E. McCulloch, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas C. Frost, and Majors James B. Barry and Ed. Burleson.
