I was unable to find a promotion for Tivy in his military records. The captain seemed to occur when the State put up the marker at Tivy Mountain.
I wonder whether Tivy went to California with Jack Hayes or Hayes with Tivy. Both were surveyors. Tivy joined Hayes when Hayes Ranger operations wenr along the Guadelupe. Tivy had surveyed the area along the river out as far a Johnson Creek and maybe further. Both went, built up business in other than gold and both went into government. Tivy Came back to New Mexico and then back to South Texas where he had a Hotel. Hayes had a great career in California and retired there. I have been looking for my Hayes book to see when he went. Probably need to check the California end.
