Hill maintained his letter book and monthly account books and gave them to the National Archives in 1902. A note indicating the source listed him as being in Falls Church, Virginia. He seemed to have been a protege of Theophilis Holmes, and they were probably related. Somewhere in my notes, I recall that Homes arranged for a special exchange for Hill when he was captured, and Hill went with him to the Trans-Mississippi.
