Martins 5th Partisan Rangers, Co H

Janie,
.
re: John Filo Fairchild. I was surprised to read this statement in you posting. ".. John never returned home to wife and children after he left Kimble County to join up with Martins 5th in Greenville, TX in 1862. .."
.
Below is my "Fairchild" entry from my 192-page Name Index. Notice that he and his family were in the 1860 Hunt Co TX census before he enrolled in a militia in which he was elected corporal. Notice that he was also a corporal in Martin's 5th Partisan Rangers. I have scores, if not hundreds, of examples of officers of militias who became officers in the Confederacy.

I must quickly add that before I saw your posting, I had this gent listed as "John F. Fairchild," so thank you for the information.
