Texan drowned in Clarksville, TN., Nov. 1861

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that on November 8th, 1861 Moses Gerald or the 7th Texas Infantry fell from the transport into the Cumberland River at the dock in Clarksville, TN. and drowned. The article reported that his body was carried downstream some distance before it was recovered. According to the paper, Gerald was a member of Captain Bass' company. I have been unable to find any information on Moses Gerald or a Captain Bass as members of the 7th Texas. The only Bass listed in the Soldiers and Sailors site is a Private Bass.
Greggs' 7th Texas was inroute from Texas to their appointed duty station in Hopkinsville, KY.

Gerald was reportedly from Harrison, Texas. Does anyone have any information on either of these parties.
