Fred Cocke's Company, Benavides Cavalry Regiment
I have found additional information on this company. It was commanded by Captain Fred Cocke. Not certain, but I think this is the same Fred Cocke who became District Attorney of Bexar County in the 1870's. Other likely members of this company raised in Caldwell County were David Powell Roberts, Ben M. Roberts, Sam Garner, J. P. Hellum, E. K. Roberts, and my ancestor Elihu Littleberry Kirksey. It appears that this same company was present at the Battle of Palmito Ranch, but it appears that at this time they were attached to Col. Rip Ford, rather than Benavides. Still looking for more information. None of these names appear in the NPS site. Records of this unit appear to have been lost.
