His records may be procured through the service noted in the Red enclosed box above, His discharge certificate contains a physical description of him.

Samson McGee,18 year old Farmer, born in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, enlisted as a Private in Captain James H. McReynolds' Company, Maxey's Regiment Texas Infantry* October 5, 1861 in Daingerfield, Titus County by W. El. Beason for a period of 12 months, discharged on account of disability November 8, 1862, paid $135 on discharge, including transportation from Tullahome,Tex, to Dangerfield, $103, signed his discharge certificate with "His Mark 'X'"

* This company subsequently became Company D, 9th (Young's) Regiment Texas Infantry.

The 9th (also known as the 8th and as Maxey's) Regiment Texas Infantry appears to have been organized about November 4, 1861. It was mustered into the service of the Confederate States December 1, 1861, for twelve months, under special authority from the Secretary of War, and it was re-organized May 8, 1862, under the Conscript Act.
