Don't know if there is a connection or not, but I dug a brass piece measuring about 1 1/2" x 2 1/4" (with four very small pointed spikes on the back) in the shape of a open script AA, or an M years ago in a Civil War camp site near Marshall, Texas. There was also other modern stuff around so I was never sure if the piece was Civil War era or not.
