27th Brigade of the Texas State Troopers (Frontier

HOWDY, I need help because I live in FL, and have searched everything I know of:

My 3rd GGUncle was John Burch Walker d. 17 July 1908 at Calf Creek McCulloch called "JB" by family and was a sargent in the 27th Brigade of the Texas State Troopers (Frontier Division). His Captain, AJ Berry's widow applied for and recieved a confederate pension #51507 in 1934 in Williamson co. He lived in Bell Co. and I also found a notation about a letter to the authorities for am exemption for a JB Walker from the people of Williamson co and a Mrs Blair. There were few men left in the state in 1863 and they were critical to the running of the state.
The frontier Division would explain his going into Mexico and the "frontier" would have been close to where he lived. This all occured in around 1863. He arrived in South TX around 1859 with his family. He was from KY. His father was my 4th Great GrandFather who owned a few slaves and was sympathic to the south. As a matter of fact, there is a unproven family lore that his father was robbed by one of Morgan's outriders during Morgan's raid through IN and OH. If it is true it would be bad since my GGrandfather was a southern sympathizer.

What I really need is wheather or not his unit was a part of the CSA. I think not but wish it was!

This was found at Austin, State Archives:
