Texas State Line in Bonham; May 30, 1863;
In Response To: Texas State Line ()

Mike G. Thompson,

Four of the six companies of May 30, 1863 were cited in the following March 28, 1863 document found in the Texas Archives. The other two are in question, but they were TST, not CSA.

1863, Mar 28 .... the four Companies of [C.L.] DeMorse’s [TX 29th CSA] Regt. be permitted to remain for the protection of our people, until the force being raised can be put in the field. ...
.
The other two were probably:
.
1) Capt Nicholson's Co C recruited from Fannin Co TX on May 10, 1863 in Bourland's 2nd Cavalry (TST)
and possibly
2) Capt. S.P.C. Patton maintained an Independent Company in the Texas Cavalry (TST)... I list him because I cannot pigeonhole where his was stationed in Apr-June 1863.
.
I'll send you two consecutive pages from my book since the above abbreviated answer is too curt.
.
It is worth noting that within my "1864 Fannin Co TX, Bonham, March 13" entry, I have a major bold caption "McCulloch had only Texas State Troops" lifted from his OFFICIAL RECORD entry. This points up that CSA Brig-Gen. H.E. McCulloch had not acclimated to the fact that on March 1, 1864 both Bourland's Regt and McCord's Frontier Cavalry were formally accepted into the CSA primarily just to finance their growing regiments.
.
As the War wore on, the differentiation between CSA and TST grew less important as illustrated on my web page:

.
Mike, I will send you two pages from my book that addresses this question.
