Fort at head of Elm Fork of Trinity River, St Jo

Fort at the Head of Elm, Montague County. ..We invite archaeologist to study this building. ..Was it the "fort at the head of Elm" that Mrs. W.R. Potter referenced in her 1913 book? ..See photos of this "fort" on my web page.

This building was probably built in the 1850s in the “Head of Elm” community, near the head of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. ..Renamed Saint Jo in 1873, incorporated 1886. ..See Saint Jo in the HANDBOOK OF TEXAS online reference and the mention of the Singletary family. ..Immediately below is Shirley Hampton's discussion in this forum of her Singletary family and the Head of Elm community.

from my bibliography:

Potter, Fannie (Bellows), Mrs. W.R.; "History of Montague County: Era 1--Immigration, Era 2--Organization. Era 3--Progress"; Austin Tx, E.L. Steck (1913) 191pp. LC#a24000203. ..Outstanding resource. ..Most characters were militia men, in Bourland’s Regt, or collaborative families of my family history.
