Re: LOST! Company B, 27th Texas Cavalry

After going through Companies A, B, and most of C of Whitfield's Legion in detail. B is probably not lost but ceased to exist in June of 1862 when Capt Murphy's B company became Company H of Stirman's 1st Arkansas Cavalry Battalion. This company was then trained as Sharpshooters. The Battalion was merged with Major Bridges' Battalion of Phifer's Brigade to form a regiment of Sharpshooters for Phifer's Brigade at Corinth and Hatchie Bridge. Bridges' Battalion was made up of Company I, 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment and Company H, 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment (all Dismounted). This may be one of the few times in the military when they did not follow tradition.

I may find something else when I get through the Legion, but for now will assume that there was no B Company in the Whitfield-Ross Texas Cavalry Brigade.
