Texas in the Civil War Handbook

If you haven't seen it, go to the Texas State Historical Association On Line and view their new baby. I have spent the last two nights making small corrections to the Whitfield-Ross Texas Cavalry Brigade regiments and biographies. I think we can make some contributions, even though I may have kicked them in the knee on the 27th Texas Cavalry/Whitfield Legion. Most everything is good for researchers who may have been working out of familiar areas. They did a good first job. I also hit them in their lack of good coverage of Texans out side Texas. They listed only battles inside Texas. The Ross Texas Cavalry Brigade did its real work in Georgia and Tennessee. I do the same thing to the people at Nash Farm in Georgia. They equate a Union Brigade = a Confederate Brigade. I keep reminding them that most Confederate Brigades were under 50% by August 1864. Many Union Brigades had just come back on line after Veteran's leave and were at least above 75%. Cut out the sick and the support and both did not have great paper strength. The South made up in manpower with bold experienced fighting. There are a lot of areas covered and a lot of material was crossed over from the Handbook of Texas On Line which they run. www.tshaonline.org/handbook/civil-war
