Joshua A. Hawkins

howdy --

Dad (b. 1915, d. 1992) was born and raised in Oklahoma (b. Tillman Co, d. Jackson Co, both in SW Ok). He used to say he visited his grandma Hawkins only once. Now she died in 1923, so he was just a young boy when she died. She lived down around Falls County, Tx. His dad was born in neighboring Milam County. Dad said during his visit, he saw an old rifle, mentioned it to his grandma, and she said his grandpa (Joshua Allen Hawkins b. ALabama @ 1837-d. 1892 Milam or Falls Co, Texas) had used in the Civil War.

Well I have looked all over online for Joshua Allen Hawkins in any Texas unit and haven't found him. Altho Joshua was born in Alabama, he is on the 1860 census living in Milam Co., Tx. So he should appear in a Texas unit. I did find a J. A. Hawkins but i discovered that was a "Josiah" A. Hawkins. I have lately been wondering if they just got his name wrong and wrote it as Josiah instead of Joshua. Now on 1880 census he appears to be born in 1835 not 1837 as the 1860 census shows. There is another Joshua Hawkins who is in nearby Williamson Co., Tx who came from Georgia to Arkansas to Texas -- as far as I know we are not related to him.

Any help appreciated.
