Grave Marker Sgt John C Bell

On Saturday, part of their history came to life as the Sons of the Confederacy marched in full regalia carrying
rifles and flags to honor Civil War veteran John Chism Bell, who lost his leg in battle and lived out the rest
of his life in the Millville Community. (Just north of Henderson,Tx.)

Smoke from cannon and musket fire signaled the enduring respect for Bell’s service and the people’s deep interest
in preserving their traditions and history. In recent years, several other official Confederate States of America
grave markers have been erected at the cemetery. Bell received a dual honor for being a Civil War veteran and an
original Republic of Texas native.
