Thanks for posting this Joe. It is interesting that this occurs after Ft Smith AR and the posts in the Indian Territory had already been abandoned. Those in Indian Territory were occupied by Texas State Troops. Of course, the distance to be travelled and the conditions in southwestern Texas are much different than in Indian Territory. Fort Davis to Castroville would be quite a hike and probably hot days and cold nights in early May.
