I received a family history book in the mail today that gives the following information about one of my ancestors: "When the Civil War broke out William went to Texas and joined Captain "Raines" Militia and fought the Plains Indians." Later it says, "The Texas State Archives in Austin Texas says William was a Private in 1st Regiment, 21st Brigade and he Commanding Officer was Captain Samuel F. Mains. Pvt. Gabriel enlisted November 8, 1862 at Monague, Texas."

I have not found any information that substantiates this information on either Ancestry.com or Footnote.com. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out. I appreciate any information that anyone can give or suggest. Allen Davis
