Battle of Dug Springs, MO 150 Ceremony

‘Battle’ of Dugs Springs Event Being Planned by Christian County Historical Society
The Christian County Historical Society is planning a observance ceremony for the 150th anniversary of the battle or skirmish at Dug Springs, along the Old Wire Road near present day Clever, Missouri. The battle has also been known as "Rain’s Scare". Plans are that the "Battle of Dug Springs Commemoration" , will start at 2:00 P.M. , Sunday August 7th at the Clever Middle School parking lot 401 West Inman Street, Clever, Missouri. Plans are for period dressed reenactors representing both sides of the conflict to participate and perform firing of weapons along with artillery firing of cannon. Plans also call for appropriate remarks by historians about the actual battle and significance of this as being one of the first battles of the Civil War and precursor to the Battle of Wilson's Creek a week later. The site was marked with an informative descriptive display only a few years ago by the Missouri Department of Resources. If you are traveling from Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, it will take between 15 and 20 minutes to drive there.
