To get even more specific, it was 15 miles NW of Tyler, up towards Mt. Sylvan, still in Smith County. We had quite a few regimental camps around the county in the summer of 1862 as Henry McCulloch gathered his Texas troops before marching off toward Little Rock. They began moving northeast on August 25. Speight and the 15th Texas left two weeks later.
