From my 200-page Name Index:

Many soldiers are mentioned on more than one CSA regimental roster. .. For each soldier mentioned in my Name Index, I have tired to include all CSA military units in which he is listed. ..Please understand that I have tried to consistantly pack as much relevant info as possible into each Index entry. ..I cannot expand my 200 page-Index since my 5th edition was 1,046 pages.

Changing names. When a soldier enrolled in more than one CSA regiment, he would usually change his name, i.e. reverse his first and middle name or initials, change the spelling of his last name (e.g., Sampson Magee vs Samson McGee in the 9th Infantry and 11th Cavalry, respectively.) Since I have at least 10,000 soldiers mentioned in my book, I've searched a couple of databases. ..(I have 240 militias listings that average about 60 men each, and of course, many men were in more than one militia.)
.
American Civil War Database. I highly recommend that serious researchers subscribe to American Civil War Database: >http://www.civilwardata.com/active/index.html< ..I have used it all day, every day for years. And by the way, it is a great tool for determining the various spellings of a name.
