J. N. Lile enlisted in a Lamar Couty militia.
Newton Lile enlisted in a Fannin County militia.

Newton Lile Enrolled as a private in the original Texas State Infantry Company on June 12, 1861, mustering in on June 17, 1861 in Fannin County, Texas. The last name is shown as Lisle on the Corrected State Muster Roll and as Lyle on the final State Muster Roll. He mustered out of the State Service and into the Confederate Young’s Texas Cavalry on October 2, 1861.

On Confedrate records the name is also listed as J.N. Lile, Lile N. Newton and J. N. Lyles (see below). Present on the 1861 and 1862 Muster Rolls only. No further records, except mixed with J. N. Lyles. The author has separated them, since it appears to be two men.

J. N. Lyles A Statement of Service slip, dated September 18, 1915 indicates that he transferred from Company "B", 9th (Maxey's) Texas Infantry on January 23, 1863 by order of General McCown. Had been wounded at the battle of Murfreesboro on December 31, 1862. Shown as received with the 11th Texas Cavalry on October 10th and November 11th of 1863. Re-enlisted with the 9th Texas Infantry on March 20, 1864.

Surrendered at Meridian, Mississippi on May 4, 1865 according to the terms agreed upon by Lieutenant General R. Taylor and Major General E. R. S. Canby, U.S.A. Paroled there on May 11, 1865. Files contain correspondence to the Oklahoma Board of Pension Commissioners in Oklahoma City, dated September 20, 1915.
