WRONG: The "J.J. McDonald" of Sims' 9th Cav, Co C was the son of Byrd [Middleton Byrd] McDonald (1801-1875 Fann Co TX) and Melinda Williamson, per "TEXAS SCHOOL CENSUS, 1854-55" according to Stephen S. Kirk's A THOUSAND TEXANS, MEN OF THE 9TH TEXAS CAVALRY. ..The 1860 Fannin county cen shows a "Jos. H. McDonald" b-1835 TN enum with this B. McDonald, so who was "J.J. McDonald"?

Then who was the "J.J. McDonald" of Sims' 9th Cav? ..I don't know, but it was probably Wilson McDonald's only brother, "John McDonald" b-1814 TN and Ancestry.com states that he died September 1861, but I do not believe it. I have found many errors in Ancestry.com and other family records .. many family records are written many years after the event. ... CSA records have faults, but records don't lie. Again, I'd bet that this "John McDonald b-1814 TN" died after the June 1864 record of Sims' 9th Cavalry, Company C.

BTW, Col. Bourland was the enrolling officer of the militia that became Company C on Aug 29, 1861 at Pilot Grove. This J.J. McDonald enrolled on January 26, 1862, so he does not appear in my Pilot Grove, Grayson County militia listing.
