Maj Finis Ewing Kavanaugh & Col Dan Showalter
In Response To: Re: Col. Dan Showalter ()

Bruce Allardice,
.
Major Finis Ewing Kavanaugh & Colonel Dan Showalter were in Baird's 4th Tx Cavalry.
.
Kavanaugh family records: "All I know is that he was alive as of late February 1866 in Mazatlan, because he apparently co-owned a bar with former Capt. Dan Showalter. Showalter was shot and killed in a bar fight, reportedly with Kavanaugh." ... See a photo of F.E. Kavanaugh's burial place in Mexico City on Ancestry.com.
.

KAVANAUGH, CAVANAUGH, Finis Ewing Kavanaugh, MD, (1832 MO-1866 Mazatlan, Mexico) m-R. Aguilar; 1860 NM Terr cen p(196)380 (Baird's-Showalter's 4th Cav, Co E, AZ Brig, TX CSA)
.
SHOWALTER, Daniel Showalter (1830 PA-1866 Mazatlan of lockjaw result of a bar fight) had bro Elihu; miner in CA, state legislator; he & F.E. Kavanaugh owned a Mazatlan hotel (Col, Baird-Showalter's 4th Cav-AZ Brig, TX CSA)
.
Since Col. Showalter was in North Texas records, I refer to his regiment as Baird's-Showalter's 4th Cavalary.
