The reason I am curious is that there was a controversy between Ford and Benavides about transferring troops from Ford to Benavides, so that Benavides could hopefully be made a Brigadier General. Ford didn't like the idea, and Benavides supposedly gave up on the idea, at the time. It is discussed in the book, Rip Ford's Texas.
But a couple of other sources have him being promoted to this rank late in the War. There was a lot of politics involved.
I am wondering if this order had something to do with it.
