13th Texas Cavalry Rgt.

Cols. John H. Burnett, Anderson F. Crawford,
LtCol. Charles R. Beaty, Maj. Elias T. Steale

The regiment was formed at Crockett, Texas in the winter of 1861-1862
with about 900 and included men from Centerville, Crockett and
Madisonville. It was dismounted in the summer of 1862. It was assigned
to O. Young's, Waul's brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. It fought
at Jenkins' Ferry, Ark. It disbanded in the spring of 1865.

Jesse Pate, age 37, Private, Capt. J. N. Black's Company, 13th Regiment Texas Cavalry,* joined for duty and enrolled March 31, 1862 in Houston County by J. N. Black for 3 years, traveled 40 miles to rendezvous, value of horse $125, equipments, $15, recorded on the May & June, 1862 muster roll as "Discharged with Pay certificate," discharged July 14 at Camp Blair Red River under conscript Law

Note: Under the re-organization of the Army in May, 1862, those over the age of conscription, 35, were discharged

* This company was known at various times as Captain Black's Company, Company E and Company A, 13th Regiment Texas Cavalry.

The 13th Regiment Texas Cavalry was organized March 1, 1862 and re-organized May 24, 1862. It was also known as Burnett's Regiment Texas Cavalry and as the 13th Regiment Texas Mounted Volunteers
