I would like to suggest Pat Cleburne of the CSA, Arkansas. Know as the "Stonewall" of the West he started as Pvt. and rose to rank of Maj. Gen. Died a Franklin, Tenn.

Union General Jefferson C. Davis, little written and in the thick of the Sherman march. He is also the General who shot a fellow yankee general in Tenn. and was never brought to trial. Oh, it was over a woman.

Look to the Rio Grand and the Tejano in Blue and Gray book. The experience there was different from any other place in the south. And they got the racism of being free and brown. Look to maybe Dr. Pound of Dripping Springs, Texas. In the 18 Texas Cav. if I am not mistaken. He was a founder of the town and lived a long life. The people of Dripping Springs would be glad to help.
