Re: Bushwacker Bill Wilson's Death
George Clinton Arthur wrote "Bushwacker" and published it in December 1938. I have an original edition which was given to my family by Mr. Arthur. My grandmother told me Mr. Arthur gave copies to everyone in the family at the time. Bill Wilson's niece was my great grandmother. There have been several editions which have followed over the past 20 years. Each edition has added new information which has helped fill in more of the events of Bill's death. As well as I can determine, Bill was killed January 24, 1869 near VanAlstyne, Texas. The book ends with the claim the Wilson family was told Bill took on another identity, forced to abandon his family. Other than family stories, I have yet to find any evidence this was the case. I would love to see a letter or some other evidence to show he survived past 1869.
