Burdens from Cooke County in Civil War

George Washington Burden, born 1837 in Taney County, MO came with other members of his family (brothers Joseph and Will and sister Nancy) to Cooke County in the early 1850a. Family lore says that George Washington Burden died as a prisoner of war in 1864. Interested in finding out if this is true. If so, what side did the Burdens fight for? Any help appreciated.
