Texas-made guns for Showalter's Bn.

In the O.R.'s (vol. XXVI/2, s.#42) J. Bankhead says on 23 August 1863, that Showalter's Bn of the 4th Regiment (Baird's) of the Arizona Brigade is unarmed. But he doesn't want the Texas-made rifles as they are so "indifferently made" and would use shotguns if he had them. Does anyone know what kind of Texas-made guns are involved, and who made them, and why he disliked them so much? Thanks. Earl Pittman
