June 21 to July 1, 1862, recorded on the May/June, 1863 muster roll as absent on detached service, subsequent muster recorded as present, Courier, taken prisoner October 16/18, 1863, Clinton, Miss., captured at Vicksburg, received by Provost Marshall, Memphis, Tenn. October 27, sent to Alton, Illinois prison camp November 8, transferred to Fort Delaware, Del. prison camp February 29, 1864, exchanged October 30, 1864, discharged from Point Lookout, Md. prison camp October 31, admitted Receiving & Wayside Hospital, Richmond, Va., November 22, 1864, furloughed for 30 days November 15, 1864, no further records

* This company was successively designated as Captain Stewart's Company, Sims' Regiment Texas Volunteers, Captain English's Company, 4th Regiment Texas Cavalry, and Company I, 9th Regiment Texas Cavalry.

The 9th (also known as the 4th and as Sims') Regiment Texas Cavalry was accepted into service of the Confederate States October 14, 1861, for twelve months and was re-organized in May, 1862
