Correction: Sims' 9th Cav; Washington Alderson

re: Washington L. Alderson, Sims' 9th Cav, Co F

From my Name Index:
.
ALDERSON, Wm. Edward Alderson (1833 GA-1906) m-E. Mathews; Sims' 9th Cav, Co F, Capt (Capt, Cass Co, TST)

ALDERSON, Washington L. Alderson (1836 GA-1862) Sims' 9th Cav, Co F (Lt, Cass Co, TST)

I submit that the “W.L. Alderson, killed in action on March 7, 1862, Elkhorn Tavern, Arkansas” record in the NARA M-323-56 is correct contrary to the following note in Stephen S. Kirk’s A THOUSAND TEXANS, MEN IN THE 9TH TEXAS CAVALRY.

“It should be noted that his great nephew, Walter William Alderson, disputed these records in 1986, and stated that Wash Alderson survived the Civil War. Walter W. Alderson stated that Wash Alderson lived between Houston and Beaumont after the War and had a son, Malcolm C. Alderson.” per Kathryn Hooper Davis’ TEXAS CONFEDERATE HOME, Nacogdoches TX, Ericson Books (2003).

After going down many rabbit trails chasing every branch of the Aldersons in Texas, I realized that none of these people descended from Washington L. Alderson. Every generation has several with the Christian names "Washington or Malcolm." I finally found the following posting that explained why there were so many 2d and 3d cousins with the same names. Plus I could never find the parents of Capt W.E. Alderson and W.L. Alderson, but because of the names of their descendants (Washington and Malcolm), they were evidently closely related. “After the civil war, many of the sons and daughters of Capt. Geo. Washington Alderson, CSA, came to Texas, along with their mother, Capt. Alderson's second wife. One, Andrew Patterson Alderson, settled near Greenville, TX, in Hunt County.” ...
