Re: Black Texas Confederates
At the Confederate Reunion of 1905 at Goldthwaite, Texas, July 3, 4, and 5 an ex slave and confederate soldier named Dick Perkins of Brownwood, Texas gave a talk. He had been invited by some veteran's that had known him during the war. He was a slave from Mississippi; his master had been killed at the Battle of New Orleans: he joined the confederate army with Walker's Division and served the rest of the war. This account comes from the book A NO MAN'S LAND BECOMES A COUNTY a history of Mill's County, Texas, page 120.
